Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm.  You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen.  Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in.  This week we are continuing our study on the Ecumenical Creeds.  The worksheet we are using for the Apostles’ and Nicene Creed will be provided, as well as the worksheet for the Athanasian Creed. We are also providing hard copies of the Book of Concord for free, as well as copies of the Lutheran Service Book.

We will open class with Psalm 92 and our catechism lesson will be the Eighth Commandment. We will continue the Third Article of the Creed by discussing the divinity of the Holy Spirit.  We will also discuss how the Holy Spirit in gives life both physical and spiritual life.  We will then sing “O Day Full of Grace” (LSB 503).

We will then talk about how the Holy Spirit proceeds from both the Father and the Son.  We will talk about what this procession means.  We will then sing “Come, Holy Ghost, Creator Blest” (LSB 498/499).

We will then talk about how the Holy Spirit, as God, is worshiped with the Father and the Son.  How the whole Trinity is rightly to be glorified.  We will then sing the hymn “The Lord, My God, Be Praised” (LSB 794).

We will talk about how the Holy Ghost spoke to the prophets.  How He caused the writing of the Holy Scriptures through the hands of men.  We will then sing the hymn “God Has Spoken by His Prophets” (LSB 583).

If we have time we will also discuss what the Church is.  Why the church is holy, catholic, and apostolic and what that means for the Church as the Bride of Christ.  We will close with singing “The Church’s One Foundation” (LSB 644).

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.   Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
