Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm.  You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen.  Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in.  You can also join us remotely via our livestream.  Our current study is on the Smalcald Articles.  We are providing hard copies of the Book of Concord for free, as well as copies of the Lutheran Service Book.

We will open class with Psalm 108 and our catechism lesson will be on the Second Petition of the Lord’s Prayer. We will then read Part I: The Awe-Inspiring Articles on Divine Majesty.  We will discuss the Holy Trinity and how there is only one God.  We will also discuss who Jesus of Nazareth is, namely that He is the incarnate Son of God, the Second Person of the Trinity.  We will close this section by singing the hymn “We All Believe in One True God” (LSB 954).

We will then read Part II: The Articles That Refer to the Office and Work of Jesus Christ; That Is, Our Redemption Article I: The Chief Article.  We will talk about how we are justified freely for the sake of Christ’s death on the cross for our sins.  The the centrality of this doctrine is so great that it is the doctrine on which the Church stands or falls.  We will close with the hymn “Salvation Unto Us Has Come” (LSB 555).

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.  Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
