Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. This week we are continuing our study on the Ecumenical Creeds. The worksheet we are using for the Apostles’ and Nicene Creed will be provided, as well as the worksheet for the Athanasian Creed. We are also providing hard copies of the Book of Concord for free, as well as copies of the Lutheran Service Book.
We will open class with Psalm 91 and our catechism lesson will be the Seventh Commandment. We will continue the Second Article by discussing Christ’s ascension into heaven. We will talk about why He ascended and what gifts He gives to men by His ascension. We will then sing “Up Through Endless Ranks of Angels” (LSB 491)
We will then discuss Christ sitting at the right hand of the Father. How He now rules over all creation as fully God and fully Man, and works for the benefit of the Church. We will continue by singing “See, the Lord Ascends in Triumph” (LSB 494).
We will then talk about the second coming of Christ. That Christ will come as judge of all people, taking the elect the new heavens and earth and sending the unbelieving to hell, and that all people will see His glory and recognize Him as God. We will then sing the hymn “The Day Is Surely Drawing Near” (LSB 508).
We will then talk about how Christ’s kingdom will have no end. That both the new heavens and new earth will be eternal, unfading, inviolate, and completely without sin. We will close by singing “The Clouds of Judgment Gather” (LSB 513).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
