The Good Shepherd, William Dyce (1806-1864)
Lutheran Essentials is currently meeting remotely due to the COVID pandemic. You can join us via our livestream, we will start at 7pm. We are studying Martin Luther’s Large Catechism. As part of the class we are handing out copies of the Book of Concord (which contains the Catechism) and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
We will open our study with Psalm 32, recite the Fifth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer from the Small Catechism, and sing verse 6 of the hymn “Our Father Who From Heaven Above” (LSB 766). We will look at the Fifth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer in the Large Catechism. We will talk about our greatest need, which is the forgiveness of sins. That we should receive forgiveness from God for our sins, and then forgive our neighbor when they sin against us. We will close with the hymn “Lord, to You I Make Confession” (LSB 608).
We will continue our study with Psalm 125, recite the Sixth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer from the Small Catechism, and sing verse 7 of the hymn “Our Father Who From Heaven Above” (LSB 766). We will look at the Sixth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer in the Large Catechism. We will talk about how God tempts no one, but rather that we should pray that He lead us from temptation. That He would thwart the devil, the world, and our fleshes attempts to ensnare us in sin. We will close with the hymn “Let Us Ever Walk with Jesus” (LSB 685).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
