Pope Francis at St Peter's

Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm.  You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen.  Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in.  We are studying the The Smalcald Articles in the Book of Concord.  If you do not have a copy of the Book of Concord we are providing them for free.

The Psalm for this week is Psalm 29.  The Small Catechism lesson is the First Commandment.

We will finish reading Part II Article II: The Mass.  Specifically we will finish up the section on Praying to the Saints. We will close this article with the singing of “By Grace I’m Saved” (LSB 566).

We will next read Part II Article III: Chapters and Cloisters.  We will talk about the original reason that monasteries were set up and why they are now an abuse.  Our hymn for this article is “O God, My Faithful God” (LSB 696)

Next we will read Part II Article IV: The Papacy.  We will discuss why the Papacy is AntiChrist, and what power the pope properly should have.  We will also talk about the fact that there are multiple AntiChrists which are at work today even in Protestant congregations.  We will conclude with Luther’s great hymn “A Mighty Fortress is Our God” (LSB 656)

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.  Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
