Presentation of the Augsburg Confession, Johann Dürr (1630)
Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can find the undercroft by going around the back to the parking lot of the church and then down the stairs through the kitchen. Please knock on the door and ring the bell and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream on the FLC YouTube. We are starting our study on the Augsburg Confession. As usual we are handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
Our Psalm for the evening will be Psalm 119:1-8 (Aleph) and our Catechism lesson will be on the Tenth Commandment. We begin our study with a brief history of the Western Church from AD 1054 to AD 1530. Then we will zoom in on the immediate history leading up to the Presentation of the Augsburg Confession on June 25th, 1530. We will then read the Preface to the Augsburg Confession and discuss why the Lutheran princes thought it was necessary to bring such a confession to the Diet of Augsburg. We will close with the hymn “Lord Keep Us Steadfast in Your Word” (LSB 655).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
