Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. Currently we are studying the Augsburg Confession using the 2nd Edition of the Readers Edition of the Book of Concord. If you do not have a copy we are providing them for free.
The Psalm for this session is Psalm 119:121-128 (Ayin). The Small Catechism lesson is the First Petition of the Lord’s Prayer. Previously we covered the article on the Marriage of Priests (Article XXIII).
This week we will be covering the Mass (XXIV). We will discuss what the Mass is and the abuses of the Roman Catholic Church that were corrected by the Reformers. Since the Confutation disagrees with this article we will also read the Apology of the Augsburg Confession XXIV (XII) 1-5, 16-21, 53-59, 68-73. The hymn for this article is “Lord Jesus Christ, You Have Prepared” (LSB 622).
Next we will cover Confession (XXV). We will discuss Confession and the abuses of the Roman Catholic Church that were corrected by the Reformers. The Confutation disagrees with this article as well but we have already covered the Apology on this article when we did Confession (XI). The hymn for this article is “Savior, When in Dust to Thee” (LSB 419).
