Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream. Our current study is on the Heidelberg Disputation. We are also providing hard copies of the Book of Concord for free, as well as copies of the Lutheran Service Book.
We will open class with Psalm 119:153-160 (Resh) and our catechism lesson will be on the Fifth Commandment. We will continue our study of the Heidelberg Disputation by looking at the proofs for theses 7-12. We will talk about what sins are truly mortal, that is damning sins, and we will talk about what sins are truly venial, that is sins that do not damn. We will then sing stanza’s 7-12 of the hymn “On My Heart Imprint Your Image”.
Next we will read the proofs for theses 13-18. We will discuss that our so called free will is not actual free but enslaved to sin. Rather the Christian must be saved by Christ alone because their will is dead in trespasses and sin. We will close with singing stanza’s 13-18 of “On My Heart Imprint Your Image”.
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
