Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. Our current study is on “The Spirituality of the Cross” by Gene Edward Veith Jr. If you do not have a copy we are providing them for free. We are also continuing to provide the Book of Concord for free.
The Psalm for this session is Psalm 24. The Small Catechism lesson is the Fifth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer.
We will continue reading the fourth chapter on Vocation: The Spirituality of Ordinary Life. We will read about Having a Calling (pg. 96-103) and discuss what it means to have a vocation. We will then read about Acting In, And Out Of, Vocation (pg. 103-108) and talk about how we know which vocations we are in. Next we will read about The Pastoral Vocation (pg. 108-111) and read about how not everyone is called to be a pastor. We will then finish by reading Bearing the Cross in Vocation (pg. 111-114) and discuss how the Theology of the Cross interacts with the Theology of Vocation. We will close this chapter by singing “‘Come Follow Me,’ the Savior Spake” (LSB 688).
