On Saturday, June 8, the congregation of First Lutheran Church of Boston came together to participate in the rite of installation of our new Pastor, the Reverend James Hopkins. The people and the organ sang joyfully to welcome Pastor Hopkins into our midst and to solemnize his call to be the undershepherd of Christ in this place. Former First Lutheran pastors Ingo Dutzmann and Walter Reuning were among those participating in the ceremony.
Pastor Hopkins was especially happy to have Pastor Scott Bruzek, of his home church in Illinois, on hand to preach an inspiring sermon. Thanks to all who traveled (whether long distances, or simply through the maze of downtown road closures) to celebrate this occasion together. A reception in the courtyard followed the service, with strawberry shortcake and children running underfoot. We welcome your prayers for our fellowship as our local church enters this new phase in her history.
