Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can find the undercroft by going around the back to the parking lot of the church and then down the stairs through the kitchen. Please knock on the door and ring the bell and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream on the FLC YouTube. We are studying the Augsburg Confession. As usual we are handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
Our Psalm for the evening will be Psalm 119:49-56 (Zayin) and our Catechism lesson will be on the First Petition of the Lord’s Prayer. We will consider Article XI of the Augsburg Confession on Confession. We discuss the gift of Confession and Absolution and the forgiveness the Lord gives therein. We will also talk about what sins one should confess and whether one needs to remember all sins one has committed. We will sing the hymn “From Depths of Woe I Cry to Thee” (LSB 607).
Next we will cover Article XII on Repentance. We discuss that repentance has two parts, contrition and faith. We will also discuss whether penance is necessary and that penance if assigned does not pay for sin or merit grace but rather is a demonstration of repentance. We will close with the hymn “When in the Hour of Deepest Need” (LSB 615)
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
