The angel showing St. John the heavenly Jerusalem. A. Caprioli after M. de Vos. 16th Century

Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 8pm following Vespers at 7pm. You can also join us remotely via our livestream on the FLC YouTube.  Our current study is on the Ecumenical Creeds.  You can find digital copies of the worksheets for the creeds here: Apostles’ and Nicene Creed; Athanasian Creed.  Printed copies are available at the church. We are also handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.

We will open with our catechetical lesson on the Third Commandment. We will then continue our study of the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds by discussing the communion of saints.  That we worship with the saints together in heaven, so that we are one holy catholic and apostolic Church.  We will then sing the hymn “For All the Saints” (LSB 677).

Next we will discuss Baptism and the forgiveness of sins.  That in Baptism we are washed and made clean and receive the Holy Spirit.  We will also talk about how there is a single Baptism, there is no such thing as rebaptism.  We will then sing the hymn “God’s Own Child I Gladly Say It” (LSB 594).

We will close with a discussion of the general resurrection of the dead.  That all the dead will be raised to new life, and we will see God with our own eyes.  We will close with the hymn “Lord, Thee I Love with All My Heart” (LSB 708).

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.  Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
