Music at The First Lutheran Church of Boston

The FLC concert series is part of FLC’s Music Outreach Program, which seeks to connect people through music to God’s word. First Lutheran Church is a venue for fine liturgy and music in the Lutheran Tradition. Our organ, which was build in 2000 by Richards&Fowkes Co., is designed to accommodate the needs of congregational singing and the historically accurate performance of organ works by the great North German composers of the 17-18th centuries. Aside from the great music we share in worship each Sunday, we host regular concerts and special music services throughout the year.

First Lutheran's Ensemble-in-Residence: Exsultemus"Victoria and the Spanish Nation in Rome"Beginning in 1492, Spain began an unprecedented period of cultural domination. Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile--presiding over a throne united by marriage--succeeded in capturing the last Moorish stronghold in Granada, in beginning to colonize the Americas, and, with the election of Roderigo Borgia as the first Spanish pope, in achieving unparalleled access to the Papacy. The Spanish influence in Rome (and the New World) was palpable for the next two centuries, not least in the area of liturgical music. In this program, Exsultemus presents some of the most powerful and widely-traveled music by Spanish composers active in Rome during the sixteenth century, including excerpts from Tomás Luis de Victoria's moving Lamentations for Holy Week.Sarah Bellott, Lydia Brotherton, Shannon Canavin & Teresa Wakim, sopranoThea Lobo & Martin Near, altoJason McStoots, Eric Rice & Steven Soph, tenorBrian Church & Ulysses Thomas, bassFREE ADMISSION, with refreshments to follow
