Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. Our current study is on the Canon of Scripture. The book we are using is F. F. Bruce’s “The Canon of Scripture”. If you do not have a copy we are providing them for free. We are also continuing to provide the Book of Concord for free.
This week we will finish reading through the fourth chapter The Old Testament: The Old Testament Becomes A New Book. We will read the section on The Mystery Disclosed (pg. 59-63) where we will discuss Old Testament prophecies regarding the Gentiles coming to faith in the New Testament era. We will then read A Shared Heritage (pg. 63-67) and discuss why Jews and Christians do not see eye to eye on the Old Testament. We will finish this chapter by singing the hymn “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” (LSB 357).
This will be the last class before a three week break. There will be no class on July 16th, 23rd or 30th. We will pick up with the next section on the Canon of the Old Testament in the Eastern Church on August 6th. Feel free to read ahead as we will be skipping portions of the next 3 chapters.
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions. Have a blessed 4th week of Pentecost.
