On March 4, 1894 the first LCMS sermon for the hearing imparied was preached in Chicago by August Reinke (1841-1899), a pioneering member of the Synod's Board for Deaf Missions. Today, more than half of all deaf Christian congregations in the United States are congregations of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod!
